Irene Cruz
Madrid, 1987
Irene Cruz (Madrid, 1987) is a Spanish photographer, cinematographer, and video artist known for her work in conceptual and contemporary photography. She studied Advertising and Public Relations and Audiovisual Communication at the Complutense University of Madrid and completed an International Master in Conceptual Photography and Artistic Creation at EFTI, with further specialization in narrative cinematography.
Her work is distinguished by a poetic and introspective sensitivity, with a strong focus on natural light and on the relationship between the human body and the natural environment. Cruz’s images often convey moody, mysterious, or liminal atmospheres, exploring transitions such as day to night or emotional ambiguity, frequently emphasizing emotion and sensation over explicit depictions of faces.
She has lived and worked between Berlin and Madrid for over seven years, and her work has been shown in more than 300 exhibitions, fairs, and festivals worldwide, including ARCO or Art Basel.
In addition to her artistic career, Cruz teaches at prestigious institutions across Spain, Germany, the UK, and Switzerland. She also works as a director of photography in cinema, contributing to feature films, documentaries, and commercial campaigns.
