Madrid, 1942
José Luis Alexanco (Madrid, 1942 - 2021) was a pioneering figure of the Spanish avant‑garde, recognized for his exploration of abstraction, conceptual art, and the integration of technology in artistic creation.
Trained in drawing, painting, and printmaking in Madrid, Alexanco was one of the first Spanish artists to employ computing as an artistic tool, developing software that generated three-dimensional forms which he translated into sculptures in resin, methacrylate, and mixed-media works.
Alexanco exhibited in major international events, including the São Paulo Biennial, and in institutions such as the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris and the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian** in Lisbon. His work is included in collections such as the Museo Reina Sofía (Madrid), MACBA (Barcelona), and the Victoria & Albert Museum (London), securing his legacy as a key figure in contemporary Spanish art.
