Gaze to the south
MART AGUIRRE
From 4 8 2026 to 6 4 2026
"Gazes to the South" is an artistic investigation into how light and color shape ways of understanding the world. The South appears here not as a fixed place, but as an experience: a way of seeing, feeling, and remembering. The southern light—intense, direct, ever-changing—transforms space into vibration; color ceases to be a mere resource and becomes a language.
The project brings together painting, woodcuts, screen prints, drawings, and poetic text as a spectrum of expressions that respond to one another. Each technique proposes a distinct way of articulating: painting expands and breathes; printmaking condenses and preserves memory; drawing sustains structure; words open an intimate territory. Together, these works aim to manifest a plural South, rich in nuances, where multiple cultures and sensibilities coexist—often unnoticed or undervalued.
"Gazes to the South" proposes a mode of attention: pausing to observe what vibrates and endures. In that tension between light and shadow, between gesture and trace, the work becomes a place of recognition—a space to see the diverse, the persistent, the living.
