about José Antonio Quintana
Cantabria, 1976
José Antonio Quintana Susilla (Cantabria, 1976) is a contemporary Spanish painter known for his material-rich mixed-media works, in which he uses non-traditional materials and pigments to explore his own visual reality.
He began his artistic path in graffiti and mural painting, and for over a decade has focused on a personal studio practice with works that emerge from a “controlled chaos” that he gradually orders into compositions marked by detail, glazing, transparency, and dynamic voids.
Quintana has received more than 50 national awards and distinctions in competitions such as the Ciudad de Badajoz Painting Prize and the Udalla Painting Contest. His works are part of public and private collections, including the Fundación MAXAM, Fundación Premios Mayte, BBVA, and Banco Santander.
His oeuvre, which moves between figuration and abstraction, stands out for its expressive use of materials and technical experimentation, inviting viewers to engage deeply with each piece.
