Bangladesh, 1949
Shahid Kabir (Barishal, Bangladesh, 1949) is a painter and printmaker whose career unfolds between Bangladesh and Spain, where he has lived since 1980. He studied at the Government College of Arts & Crafts, University of Dhaka, developing a practice that combines strong academic foundations with a deeply human and poetic view of everyday life.
His work is characterized by a figurative and expressive approach, depicting still lifes, landscapes, everyday objects, and human figures with a sensitivity close to Impressionism. Through the use of color, volume, and materiality, his paintings convey a strong emotional presence, shaped by the dialogue between his Bangladeshi cultural roots and his European experience.
Kabir has exhibited widely in Spain and internationally, and has received several awards, including the Carmen Arozamena Prize (Madrid) and the Kibria Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to graphic art. His work is noted for its empathy toward the human condition and its ability to transform the everyday into images rich in memory and meaning.
