about Xurxo Gómez-Chao
A Coruña, 1960
Xurxo Gómez-Chao (A Coruña, 1960) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans painting, photography, installation, and video. Graduated in Fine Arts from the San Carlos Faculty of Valencia and later trained at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he has developed a career defined by visual experimentation and a poetic reflection on memory, time, and nature.
His work evolved from an early material expressionism toward symbolic and atmospheric universes where the pictorial, the dreamlike, and the conceptual coexist. Over the last decades, he has created series in which he combines manipulated photography, found objects, and ephemeral installations to construct images of remarkable aesthetic and emotional power.
Gómez-Chao’s work is included in major public and private collections, including the María Cristina Masaveu Foundation, the ABANCA Collection, the Museum of Fine Arts of A Coruña, and the National Library of Madrid, consolidating his position as a leading figure in contemporary Spanish art.
