Friburgo, 1925
Jean Tinguely (Fribourg, Switzerland, 1925 - Bern, 1991) was a Swiss artist and sculptor, a central figure of Nouveau Réalisme and a leading representative of 20th-century kinetic art.
His work is characterized by the creation of mechanical sculptures in motion, made from industrial materials and found objects, incorporating sound, chance, and processes of self-destruction. Through these poetic and ironic machines, Tinguely challenged notions of progress, technological functionality, and the traditional boundaries of the artwork.
His works are included in major international museum collections, such as the MoMA (New York), the Centre Pompidou (Paris), and the Museum Tinguely (Basel).
