Madrid, 1916
Pablo Palazuelo (Madrid, 1915 - Galapagar, 2007) was a Spanish painter, sculptor, and printmaker, and one of the leading figures of geometric abstraction in the 20th century. Initially trained in architecture, he continued his education in the United Kingdom and settled in Paris from 1948, where he engaged with key movements of European abstraction.
He developed a distinctive artistic language based on geometry, line, and rhythm, which he defined as transgeometry, a visual and conceptual exploration of the relationships between form, space, and structure. His work encompasses painting, sculpture, and printmaking and is characterized by formal rigor, precision, and intellectual depth.
Throughout his career, Palazuelo exhibited in major international museums and galleries. His work is included in collections such as the Museo Reina Sofía, MACBA, and the Guggenheim Bilbao, and he was awarded the Velázquez Award for Plastic Arts in 2004.
