Valencia, 1922
Amadeo Gabino (Valencia, 1922 – Madrid, 2004), son of the sculptor Alfonso Gabino, was a prominent Spanish painter, sculptor, and printmaker. He began his artistic training assisting his father in his sculpture workshop and later completed his studies at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de San Carlos de Valencia, as well as in Rome, Paris, Hamburg, and New York.
His work is characterized by an abstract and constructivist language, combining metal objects, collages, and three-dimensional structures, exploring the relationship between form, space, and material. Representing Spain, he participated in the Venice Biennale in 1956 and 1966, and exhibited widely in Spain and Germany. In 1998, his monumental sculpture “Homenaje a Anton Bruckner” was inaugurated in Linz, Austria.
Among his awards are the Alfons Roig Prize (1998), the National Printmaking Prize, Ibero-American International Biennale (1980), the National Industrial Design Prize, Valencia (1980), the Grand Prize at the X Milan Triennale (1954), and the Grand Prize at the Ibero-American Biennale, Havana (1953).
His artwork blends constructive rigor, formal innovation, and aesthetic sensitivity, establishing him as a key figure in 20th-century Spanish abstract art.
