Jaume Plensa (Barcelona, 1955) is a Spanish sculptor, painter, and visual artist of international renown, known for his monumental sculptures and public space installations that integrate human figures, typography, and light. His work explores the relationship between body, mind, and language, transforming materials such as iron, steel, resin, and glass into large-scale pieces that engage with their environment and viewers.
Trained at the Sant Jordi School of Fine Arts in Barcelona, Plensa has exhibited in leading museums and art fairs worldwide, including the MoMA) in New York, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Joan Miró Foundation. His accolades include the International Sculpture Prize at the Venice Biennale, the Spanish National Prize for Plastic Arts, and the Praemium Imperiale in Japan.
Plensa’s work, often monumental and site-specific, blends poetry, geometry, and symbolism, inviting reflection on identity, communication, and human connection.
