about Joan Hernández-Pijuan
Barcelona, 1931
Painter and printmaker, Hernández Pijuan is one of the leading figures in Spanish abstract and contemplative painting. Trained in Barcelona and Paris, where he continued his studies in printmaking and lithography, his artwork is characterized by formal austerity, a meditation on space and emptiness, and the transformation of landscape into a poetic and symbolic language.
His awards include the National Prize for Plastic Arts (1981) and the National Prize for Graphic Art (2005). His work is held in collections such as MACBA, the Museo Reina Sofía, the Guggenheim Museum in New York, and the Museum of Modern Art in Buenos Aires.
