Barcelona, 1927
Josep Maria Subirachs (Barcelona, 1927 - 2014) was a Spanish sculptor, painter, and printmaker, one of the most important figures in contemporary Catalan art. His work combines modernity, geometry, and expressionism, exploring religious, social, and universal themes.
He is best known for his work on the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, where he created the Passion Facade reliefs, featuring a dynamic, expressive, and highly symbolic style. Throughout his career, Subirachs also produced public sculptures, monuments, urban furniture, and experimental projects, with a visual language defined by structure, rhythm, and figurative abstraction.
His work is included in public and private collections and has received numerous awards, establishing him as a key reference in contemporary Spanish sculpture.
