Madrid, 1958
Ceesepe (Madrid, 1958–2018), born Carlos Sánchez Pérez, was a prominent Spanish painter and graphic artist, initially linked to the underground comic scene of the 1970s. He collaborated with artists like Max and Javier Mariscal and published the Slober series in magazines such as Star and Bésame mucho. He also designed the poster for Pedro Almodóvar’s film Pepi, Luci, Bom y otras chicas del montón (1980).
After leaving comics, Ceesepe focused on painting, exhibiting his work in cities including Amsterdam, Paris, Geneva, Bali, New York, and Madrid. His work has been featured in books such as El difícil arte de mentir, París-Madrid, Libro blanco, and El arte de morir. In recognition of his career, the Spanish Council of Ministers awarded him the Gold Medal of Merit in Fine Arts in 2011.
His art combines expressive graphic language, pop influences, and a critical view of contemporary society, establishing him as an important figure in late 20th-century Spanish art.
