Manuel Hernández Mompó (Valencia, 1927 - Madrid, 1992) was a Spanish painter and a leading figure of lyrical abstraction in the second half of the 20th century. He studied at the San Carlos School of Fine Arts in Valencia and later continued his training in Paris and Rome, where he engaged with international abstract movements that shaped his artistic language.
His work is characterized by a poetic and subtle use of color, light compositions, and restrained gestural marks that convey calm and balance. Mompó developed a refined pictorial language based on delicate atmospheres and visual rhythms, positioning him as a key figure in Spanish abstract art.
Throughout his career, he exhibited widely in major galleries and museums and received distinctions such as the National Prize for Fine Arts (1962). His work is included in collections such as the Museo Reina Sofía (Madrid) and other public and private institutions.
